How long is the program?
The Tempe Leadership program starts in early September and ends in late April/early May.

What is the time commitment for the Issue Days?
Classes, called Issue Days, take place every other Friday, starting two weeks after orientation. Days start in the morning around 7:30 a.m. and end in the afternoon, usually around 4 p.m. If an applicant is not self-employed, he or she needs to secure supervisor’s permission to participate in the program.

What do we learn during the classes?
Issue Days cover the various aspects of city and community life and work – including but not limited to: Public Safety, Human Services, Arts & Culture, Tourism & Transportation, Higher Education, Historic Preservation and Personal Leadership.

Do I need to attend all Issue Days?
Although participation in all days is required, applicant can miss up to two issue days to still be eligible for graduation.

How much does the program cost?
Tuition for the program is $800. Financial assistance up to 50 percent is available if needed, upon completion and Executive Committee review of a request form. Financial assistance decisions are announced before the beginning of the program.

What is expected of Tempe Leadership applicants?
All Tempe Leadership applicants will be invited to an in-person interview with the Selection Committee. Following interviews, all applicants will be informed about class selection.

What will be asked at the interview?
Applicants should be prepared to discuss their prior leadership experience and community involvement, as well as their perspectives on personal and career development.

What is the dress code?
Professional business attire is recommended for applicant interviews. Tempe Leadership Class members attending Issue Days will be provided with attire direction from the Program Committee Chairs, as dress may be dependent upon each individual Issue Day activity.
